Democratising access to carbon markets for smallholder farming communities.
DrawDown gives smallholder carbon farming projects one operating record from tree registration and field inspections through to carbon accounting, credit management, farmer payments and audit evidence.

What the system covers
Tree registration, field measurement, carbon calculation, credit management, payments and audit — in one connected record.
RFID Tree Tracking
Each tree is tagged with a unique RFID nail at registration. Inspectors scan tags in the field to confirm identity and record measurements. Tags store key data and work without connectivity.
Quality Control
AI photo analysis checks DBH using the RFID tag as a size reference. Growth-rate outliers, repeat measurements and GPS discrepancies are flagged automatically and queued for review.
AGB Engine
Calculates above-ground biomass per tree using published allometric equations and a six-level wood-density cascade — from species values down through genus, family and plant functional type defaults.
Carbon Bank
Generates serialised credit records tied to verified carbon accounting results. Manage buyer records, track sales and record retirements. Each credit record links to the trees, measurements and calculations behind it.
HWP Tracking
Tracks carbon stored in harvested wood products using exponential half-life decay. Monitors remaining stored carbon against the pre-harvest reference stock to maintain carbon continuity across the life of the tree and harvested product.
Full Taxonomy
Structured database of families, genera and species, each with wood density values. These feed directly into the AGB engine and carbon calculations with no manual lookup needed.
Works Offline
Inspectors work offline with NFC scanning, measurement recording and photo capture. Data queues on the device and syncs automatically when connectivity returns. No fieldwork lost to poor signal.
Boundary Mapping
Draw farmer boundaries and calculate area in hectares. Eligible planting area is derived from tree positions with overlapping coverage dissolved to produce a net planted area.
Location Verification
Automated rules flag trees outside farmer boundaries, GPS drift between visits, and clusters sharing identical coordinates. Flagged items enter a resolution queue for admin action.
Payments & Reporting
Record farmer payments based on tree survival. Generate project reports in Excel and PDF covering trees, carbon, payments and inspection activity.
Role-Based Access
Five roles — super admin, admin, auditor, inspector and farmer — each scoped to their function. Auditors review credit batches independently. Inspectors see only their assigned worklist.
Carbon Accounting
Calculates tree-level carbon from species, DBH, height and routed equation logic. Includes SOC estimation, baseline stock and AGB results with full calculation provenance.
From planting to credit
Five stages connect field work to serialised carbon credits. Each stage writes to one shared operating record.
1. Register & Tag
Register farms and draw boundaries. Tag each tree with a unique RFID nail, record its GPS position and take a photo. Link every tree to a farmer, species and project. Boundary area and eligible planting area are calculated automatically.
2. Measure & Monitor
Inspectors scan RFID tags, record DBH and height, and photograph trunks — all offline. Measurements queue on the device and sync when connectivity returns. Each reading adds to the tree's growth history for tracking and anomaly detection.
3. Compute & Verify
AI photo analysis validates DBH readings. The AGB engine calculates tCO₂e per tree using the appropriate equation and wood-density cascade. Anomaly detection flags outliers and inconsistencies for review before results feed into carbon accounting.
4. Issue & Trade
Verified results are packaged into serialised credit batches through the Carbon Bank. An independent auditor reviews each batch before credit records are released for project use. Sales and retirements are recorded with a full transaction history.
5. Report & Pay
Generate project reports covering trees, carbon, inspections and payments. Calculate farmer payments based on survival rates and export data as Excel or PDF. All payment records link to the trees and measurements they cover.
Who uses it
Five roles, each limited to what they need. No shared logins, no overlapping permissions.
Super Admin
Full access across all projects and system settings. Manages the equation registry, taxonomy database, Carbon Bank configuration and user accounts.
- Cross-Project Oversight
- Equation Registry
- Carbon Bank Management
Admin / Project Manager
Manages assigned projects — farmer enrolment, inspector assignment, payment approvals and data quality. Runs anomaly detection and location verification within their scope.
- Inspector Assignment
- Payment Approvals
- Data Auditing
Auditor
Reviews carbon credit batches independently with read-only access to project data, measurements, photos and AGB calculations. Approves or rejects batches before credits become available.
- Batch Review & Approval
- Read-Only Project Access
- Audit Trail Logging
Inspector
Scans RFID tags, measures trees and captures photos using the mobile app. Works fully offline with automatic sync. Sees only their assigned worklist and daily activity.
- NFC Scanning
- Offline Data Sync
- Photo Verification
Farmer
Personal dashboard showing registered trees, mapped boundaries, carbon summary and payment history. Tracks planting progress and earnings without needing admin access.
- Boundary Mapping
- Growth Insights
- Payment History
Why this is different
Most tools handle one piece of the workflow. DrawDown connects field data, carbon calculations, credit management, farmer payments and audit evidence in a single operating record.
Quality Control Layer
AI photo analysis validates DBH using the RFID tag as a reference. Growth-rate outliers, repeat measurements and GPS discrepancies are caught at measurement time, not during audit. Problems are flagged before they reach calculations.
Methodology-Ready Data
Every AGB result records which equation was used, the density source level, calibration factors and QC flags. When a methodology requires specific provenance, the records are already in place — not reconstructed after the fact.
One Operating Record
Tree registration, measurements, AGB results, credits, payments and audit evidence sit in one connected record. No spreadsheets bridging field apps. No separate audit folders. One data trail from planting to retirement.
Built for the Field
Inspectors work in areas with poor or no connectivity using offline NFC scanning, measurement capture and photo recording. Data queues on the device and syncs when the connection returns. No data entry is repeated because of a dropped signal.
Build the operating record your carbon project needs
DrawDown gives smallholder carbon farming projects the traceable data structure needed for field monitoring, carbon accounting, credit management, farmer payments and audit review.
